This is the scan of a sticker I picked up from a gallery during my first visit to Berlin in 2008. It stayed inside a notebook ever since, and only recently, after learning about the blank slate theory, I started to have an idea of what it might be saying.
One of the first words many English speaking people learn is “MUM”. We learn it not only by hearing it, but by watching our mother’s lips form the sound. I think Kay Rosen wants to remind us of that earliest shared memory.
