He was born to look at the world in awe

I am reading Lüzumsuz Adam and in this story called İp Meselesi, Sait Faik Abasıyanık is describing a man—who, I believe, is himself—who is unfit for any job, doesn’t even know where to begin.

O, dünyaya hayretle bakmaya doğmuştur. Hiçbir şey anlamadan şaşırmaya doğmuştur. Başını alıp yollarda dolaşmaya, insanlar neler yapıyor diye görmeye, görmemeye gelmiştir. Bir köprüde durup suyun rengine bakmak, bir kızın bacaklarını seyretmek: Bunu kimler öpebilir? Şu saçı nasıl okşarlar? Okşayan ne mübarek, ne iyi, ne harikulade birisidir kim bilir?

And he continues to write about other people who deserve the girls more than himself.

While reading this I remembered Memed mentioning "if someone stopped you and asked‘what do you do in this world?’ How would you answer?"

I watched some short videos on Sait Faik last night and many people said similar things about his personality. That he was really good at observing the everyday things and the people and the streets of Istanbul and wrote about them in such a style that opened a new way of looking at how short stories can be.
